STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Following is a step-by-step guide to apply for Summer Academic Programs Abroad.

Traveling student

To be nominated for a Summer 2018 Study Abroad program, students must be:

  • Enrolled full-time at Humber
  • In Good Academic Standing;
  • And submit an Application Form and Letter of Intent by March 12, 2018.

Only completed applications will be considered. Candidates will be invited to a group interview by the Selection Committee in March 2018. Successful candidates will receive a Notification of Recommendation from The International Centre in April 2018.

1. Identify Potential Host Institutions

Review the available opportunities and assess which one(s) best fit your Humber academic program requirements. You may apply to more than one summer program.

2. Complete Application and Letter of Intent

Please review and complete the entire Application Kit which includes detailed instructions on the application process, guidelines for writing a Letter of Intent, Terms and Conditions and the Application Form.

All applicants are required to be in Good Academic Standing. Applicants must submit a current Grade Report from the Student Record System. You can access your Grade Report from MyHumber.

3. Submit Your Application

Congratulations! You are now ready to submit your application for the Summer Academic Study Abroad Program. Please submit your completed Application, Letter of Intent and Grade Report by deadline: March 12, 2018 either by e-mail or in person to:

4. Interview

You will be invited to a group interview in March 2018. The Selection Committee will have reviewed your Application including your Letter of Intent. Please review your Study Plan and Letter of Intent prior to coming to the interview. You will also be asked how you plan to support your study overseas. For information on bursaries available, please visit Humber Bursaries and select “Study Abroad / International Mobility Bursary”.

All successful candidates nominated for the Summer Abroad Program will receive a notification of recommendation at the end of April. This notification will list the host institution you have been recommended to and information regarding next steps which will include (but are not limited to):

  1. Signing a Summer Program Learning Agreement by you and your Program Coordinator
  2. Attending a mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation Workshop session, which will cover a variety of essential topics including: cross-cultural adaptation and “culture shock”, health & safety abroad, being a Humber student ambassador, global citizenship, and general travel tips.
  3. The Manager, International Mobility and Partnerships at the International Centre will assist you to complete your application to the host institution, residence accommodation abroad, bursary support, identify health insurance options, apply for required visas if applicable.   4. Consider enrolling in Humber’s free Global Citizenship Certificate program to compliment the knowledge, skills and understanding you have the chance to develop abroad.
