An international education gave me a second chance. After months of no career growth, I decided to apply to Humber College in the Ontario Graduate Certificate for Marketing Management and venture into a new country. My success as a student involved time management and focus. The little things like going to bed early and waking up early, make a huge impact. If I slacked off and didn’t do my homework or go to work, I wouldn’t have been as successful as I am today. Everything has paid off and I now work in advertising at IPG Mediabrands.
The most memorable part of my program was the “salesville” simulation from my Professional Selling class. We were required to compete with our classmates and develop our sales skills by creating a product and selling to hypothetical buyers. My Integrated Marketing Communications professor told me that opportunities are not to be taken lightly. For my internship I was required to take a qualifying exam for an opportunity at IPG Mediabrands. I aced the exam, interned in the SEO department, and grew within the company. The advice my professor told me allowed me to avoid complacency and consciously strive for greatness.
