Name: Ajose Precious

Program: Accounting Diploma and Bachelor of Commerce - Accounting

Nationality: Nigerian

Humber College offered a program that would allow me to see the business world through the eyes of an accountant before making my decision on what I would do long-term. Once I was ready, I decided to transition from a diploma into a degree program in order to become a CPA (Certified Professional Accountant). My goal is to work at one of the top four leading accounting firms in the world.  Furthermore, the International Centre’s assistance was a factor that influenced my decision to attend Humber. I was not able to find any other school that provided its international students with so much support and was keen on integrating us to become part of the Canadian community.

My favourite part of my program was my participation in the Ontario Colleges Accounting Case Competition (OCACC). We prepared a case for presentation with a strict deadline and I won the award for the Most Valuable Player (MVP). My international education has helped me thrive because I have been exposed to diversity and I have grown in aspects of my life that were a bit uncomfortable for me.

My most unique experience at Humber would be the Path 3: Leadership Retreat which took place on January 2018. Those who held leadership positions on campus were given the opportunity to have a camping experience in Muskoka, Ontario. At the retreat, I was able to learn a great deal about my leadership strengths and weaknesses and how to implement my classroom strengths to help others achieve their goals.
