Humber Inaugurating a New International Graduate School to Expand Learning Opportunities for International Students

February 6, 2020

Humber has had a long-standing commitment to providing students with choice, mobility and access to higher education opportunities. Over the past five years, these opportunities have been extended to a large number of international students. The Ontario Graduate Certificate is one credential that is demanded highly by our international students. However, with the limited number of spaces available it was challenging to meet the growing demand of the credential. Keeping that goal in mind to develop learning opportunities for our international students, Humber is launching a unique opportunity for the international students by opening the International Graduate School (IGS).

IGS is located in the heart of Toronto, a few steps away from the Yonge and Bloor intersection and is conveniently accessible through the public transit. It will not only provide additional space for the international students but will also give them an opportunity to experience a truly urban “Toronto” lifestyle.

“Our international students have always wanted a connection to career opportunities,” said Andrew Ness, Dean Humber International. “This new location provides our students with proximity to the country’s financial and commercial centre. Our graduates will also be able to take advantage of over 80 pathways to complete a master’s degree with one of our university partners in less time, for less cost, with advanced standing based on their Humber studies,” said Ness.

The establishment of IGS amplifies the goals stated in Humber’s International Strategy by strengthening Humber’s international institutional partnerships. It also reflects a number of desired outcomes in Humber’s latest strategic plan – diversity in credential programming; pathways and transfers; flexible learning, internationalization; and expansion of Humber’s learning and working spaces.

The Humber International Graduate School (IGS) will open in January 2021 and will initially offer four Ontario Graduate Certificates in Global Business Management, Marketing Management, Project Management and Supply Chain Management. Six additional programs will be added in May 2021. Students will have the option of completing the same programs at the North and Lakeshore campuses. The postgraduate programs will feature work-integrated learning and all the courses will be taught by our knowledgeable faculty. Humber is launching this initiative on its own and it is not a public-private partnership.
